The iPad app Informant (listed as Pocket Informant in the App Store) is the digital planner used by middle-school students. (Informant replaces the now discontinued Informant Go! app, which was used by sixth graders in the 2013/14 school year.) The premium version of Informant is encouraged for use as a planner and is available to all D-E Middle School students and teachers. See below for how to upgrade the free version of Informant to the premium version.
Settings to change
The following setting changes are recommended for students using Informant.
- Under Settings > Task Settings:
- Task Mode = Simple Tasks
- Due date = Tomorrow
- Default Sync Account = None (This is important to enable extra task features like photos.)
- Settings > Sync Accounts:
- Calendar App = On
- Reminder App = Off
Show Google Calendars
Any calendar that you have added to your Google Calendar account can be displayed in Informant. As of Sept 2, 2014, this process is NOT necessary for adding the Grade 6 or Grade 7 daily planners to Informant. They have been added to the Apple Calendar automatically and can appear in Informant from there.
Use the following steps to set Informant to display other Google Calendars if desired:
- In Informant, select Settings from the right-hand tool bar.
- On the left, choose Sync Accounts.
- Under Sync Service, if Google Calendar is not already listed, press Add Sync Service then:
- Select Google Calendar.
- Confirm Enabled and Automatic are on.
- Leave Account Nickname blank.
- Tap Sign In and sign into your D-E Google account using your d-e.org email address with the @d-e.org. You can leave the password blank.
- You will be redirected to the D-E login page. Enter your username (WITHOUT @d-e.org) and network password.
- Press the blue Accept button to allow Informant to access your Google information.
- While still on the Google Calendar setup screen, tap Sync Options to select the calendars to display then:
- Tap Calendars to Sync.
- Disable or enable display of specific calendars by tapping the name of a calendar. Notice the check mark to the right of the name. If a check appears, that calendar will show in Informant.
- Note that if a desired calendar does not appear in the list, it needs to be added to the Google Calendar using a web browser and the appropriate link below.
- After selecting the desired calendars and unselecting the others, tap Save at the top-right corner of the screen.
- Tap "< Google Calendar" to return to the first Google Calendar setup screen.
- After you completed steps 4 and 5 above, press the red Begin Sync button, which may take a while to complete depending on the number of calendars you selected above.
Note that if you are setting up a calendar after the first time and use the Reset Sync button, you may get asked to chose how to handle existing data. If Informant is only being used to view a read-only calendar such as a grade-level planner, chose the "Erase Local Data" option.
Calendar Links
Use a web browser such as Safari on the iPad, to add any of the calendars below to your own Google Calendar. This step is necessary before you can set iGo to display a planner. After clicking on the link and logging in to your D-E Google account, a preview of the calendar will be displayed. To add the calendar shown to your own Google Calendar account, press the "+Google Calendar" button in the lower-right corner of the screen.

- Gr 7 Daily Planner - Grade 7 daily planner maintained and updated by the Grade 7 Core team.
Update Informant to Premium
Follow these directions to install Informant and update it to the premium version. Note that you must contact Computer Services to get access to the Upgrade Informant tool. You can tell if you already have premium by accessing setting and looking for the version number in the upper-left corner. A "P" at the end of the version number indicates you have premium. For example, as of 8/28/14, the version would be "4.02.92 P".
To install and update:
- Install Informant from Self-Service or the App Store. You do not need to open the app. (Skip this step if you already have the free version of Informant installed.)
- Look or search for the white "Upgrade Inf..." icon on your iPad home screen.
- Tap the "Upgrade Inf..." icon.
- Informant will open and report "Thank you for your purchase." This indicates your upgrade is complete.
Please do not click on the white Upgrade Inf... icon again after the upgrade is complete. That will unnecessarily use up additional premium upgrade licenses, which we needed to purchase.
